I’ve been smelling some burning after a drive since this weekend and found a large amount of fresh oil on the ground from parking overnight:
For reference, it’s never dripped one drop since I’ve owned it. But...
My dipstick is already halfway down... Maybe I pushed it too hard in Portland, maybe it’s that it’s 17 years old...
Couldn’t identify any obvious places, but lots of fresh oil underneath. Definitely leaking fast enough where you can’t just top it off ever once in a while like the longboi.
Oh well. Really bad timing for various reasons...
[Snaps fingers] Darn.

Could just be a seal of some sort that is broken. Massive h oles don’t usually appear without other major symptoms. I have no idea what the usual suspects are on this car but starting there and troubleshooting until you find the source is the way to go. The upside of it leaking this much is that the source shouldnt be all that hidden.

Oh it's gonna be bad.

Better leaking then burning, but I don't know how much they'll have to take apart to get to the issue. That's what's gonna kill me.

Does it have an under tray? take it off and do the clean cardboard trip to see where it’s from.
Maybe you’ll get a letter li
ke HHFP..

Does it leak while just standing? If so you may be able to figure out where its coming from?

I think it leaks while driving because I can smell the burning. Wherever it’s leaking from is getting on something hot. Then the remainder drains down after I park it...

I mean I have no gosh darn clue lol

But maybe it won’t be too bad. I’ll cross my fingers.

dude.. so this is like the “third” thing to go wrong, so you are all done for the rest of the year, right?

Leaking on exhaust? Valve cover gasket, maybe VVT solenoid or cam angle sensor seals. All fairly easy to get to from the top of the engine. I’m not even sure if the 2JZGE has those sensors but those are fairly common things that could fail on an engine to cause that sort of nonsense.

Top it off, run the car stationary, look for leaks. Is it engine oil? If so, could be a gasket. 17 years is long enough for it to be a hose or gasket.

Nope. Bet you a box of donuts that something else will come up that's related to the weather. I'm expecting winter to be even more unpredictable this year.

Something as simple as a bad oil fill gasket or a bad crush washer at the drain?

Does it have a remote oil cooler? Or oil pump?

Oof, that sucks. I hope it’s something easy to track down. If you can smell it, it must be coming from high enough that it’s dripping down onto the exhaust, right?
If it makes you feel any better, I just put a little over half a quart into the V50 (only 500 miles after changing it ).
